Ricoh Announces Portable Video Conferencing Room System

Ricoh today announced the Ricoh Unified Communication System P3000, the first Ricoh product resulting from a partnership with Vidyo as part of Ricoh?s launch into the unified communications market earlier this year.

The P3000 delivers HD multipoint video conferencing, and enables users to share documents, photos and videos using a 3.5 lb portable room system that is built on Vidyo?s platform.

The P3000 is the first step for Ricoh into the unified communication market of products and services, scheduled for release in August 2011 in Japan. The new product and service enables users to optimize their time and space efficiently and benefit from the ability to communicate with anyone, anytime, anywhere via a standard Internet connection.

The product is compact, weighs only 1.6 kg (3.5 lbs), is extremely portable and can be easily stored in a small space. With a built-in camera, microphone, speaker and wired/wireless LAN port, users can begin communicating in 30 seconds by connecting the device to any video-output equipment, similar to a projector or other A/V equipment. The system is designed with a foldable camera "arm" that is quickly set up and easily adjusted and offers a user-friendly interface and control panel for simple operation.

The Vidyo communication and collaboration platform is software-based and can be customized for individual enterprise and vertical market video conferencing needs. The VidyoRouter leverages the company?s patented Adaptive Video Layering architecture and H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC), eliminates the MCU and offers error resiliency, low latency and rate matching enabling high quality video to work over the Internet, LTE, 3G and 4G networks. Vidyo has been active driving H.264 SVC and SIP videoconferencing interoperability in various standards bodies since 2005
