Fujitsu Releases Hard Surface, Film-Film Touch Panels for Mobile Applications

Fujitsu Components America today released a durable, Film-Film resistive touch panel series targeting mobile applications.

The company claims that the new plastic touch panels are 30-40% lighter than Film-Glass panels, withstand greater input loads, and have 2x the life of typical Film-Film panels.

The new FID-53X series touch panels are constructed with a bottom layer of shatterproof polycarbonate plastic that is lightweight and durable. The addition of a 4H, hard-tap cover film increases the panels? input load by up to 50% (0.1N to 1.5N) without damage from heavy writing pressure or repeated stylus tapping.

The FID-53X series? flexible film-film structure allows Fujitsu to customize a panel?s shape to a customer?s specific application. In addition, logos, icons, numbers or symbols can be directly screen printed on the plastic plate. Target applications include industrial handheld mobile terminals and computers.

To address industrial applications, the new panels feature an extended operating range of -30 to 60 degrees C and 20 to 90% humidity. The panels? construction prevents the generation of parallax and includes Anti-Newton Ring treatment, resulting in excellent viewability without distortion.

Other panel specifications include a minimum input life of 1 million touches (4.5N), 75 to 85% transmissivity, and +/- 3% linearity. Optionally, a controller board, a controller IC and a device driver for each interface are also available.

Available immediately, the FID-53X series includes panels ranging from 2-inches to 7-inches. They are priced from under $10.00 each in 10,000-piece lots.
