Samsung Showcases New Products at Second Annual Samsung European Forum

Samsung today laid out a confident vision for continued growth and expansion in Europe, opening the second annual Samsung European Forum at the Austria Center.

Samsung announced its new lineup of Full HD 3D solutions that are expected to be available to the European market in March. The company also detailed its focus on emerging product categories and said that it would try to expand its reach in Europe both geographically and through new B2B opportunities.

Samsung European President SangHeung Shin led a showcase of Samsung?s 2010 product lineup, highlighted by the company's solution of full HD 3D entertainment products announced earlier this year and an aggressive digital imaging strategy. The European Forum, which will run through February 27th, was launched last year as a way to bring a regional market vision to Samsung's global product and strategic announcements.

Samsung's European executives also discussed strategic initiatives and new products PC and printers. These are critical emerging areas of growth for Samsung to build on its 2009 success. Last year, the company posted record revenues of over $117 billion and a full-year operating profit of close to $9.4 billion, with Europe continuing to be Samsung's largest global sales market. Throughout today's presentation, Samsung reaffirmed its commitment to the environment both in terms of innovative new product features and new green initiatives.

"Despite a difficult economy, Samsung prevailed in 2009 and a great deal of that success was fueled by Europe," said Mr. Shin. "In 2010 we must continue to push the envelope in innovation and design while relentlessly seeking to meet the needs of our consumers. At the same time, we are putting the environment first globally and locally through sustainable practices and programs."

In 2009, Samsung created the LED TV category, selling 1.3 million sets in Europe. This year Samsung is breaking new ground in 3D. In March, Samsung will be the first to deliver to Europe a 3D TV and AV product line-up, which includes a range of Full HD 3D televisions (LED, LCD and plasma), 3D Blu-ray, 3D home theater systems, 3D glasses and 3D content.

Forum attendees will have the opportunity to take a look at the features of Samsung's new LED TV line-up - the C7000, C8000 and C9000 LED TVs. All of Samsung's Full HD 3D products possess Samsung?s built-in 3D processor and emitter that enable compatibility with multiple 3D standards. Samsung is offering Full HD 3D content on a number of fronts. Samsung televisions and Blu-ray players will feature Internet@TV, which provides access to Samsung Apps, the company's HDTV-based application store, through which video on demand is available from providers such as LOVEFiLM, BBC iPlayer and Muzu.tv in the United Kingdom and TF1 in France and applications from partners such as Google?s Picasa photo service, online gaming service Playjam and the History Channel.

Content will also be available from Samsung's exclusive partnership with Dreamworks announced earlier this year. Samsung added that the 2009 blockbuster "Monsters vs. Aliens" in 3D will be available exclusively bundled with Samsung Full HD 3D televisions.

Samsung also announced four new cameras and camcorders in 2010 - the EX1, the WB 2000, the HMX-U20 and new NX10 lenses. The EX1 is a 10 mega-pixel, high-end compact digital camera with an f/1.8 lens for a wider range of aperture steps and shallow depth-of-field, so photographers can take better pictures in low-light environments. The WB2000 is a high-speed, 10 mega-pixel compact camera with a dual capture mode while also recording full-HD video. The ultra-compact HMX-U20 camcorder's built-in USB connection makes it easy to share what's captured immediately through one-touch sharing to YouTube. Throughout 2010 Samsung also plans to introduce eight new lenses for the NX10.

Ranked No. 1 in the full touch mobile phone segment, last week Samsung unveiled its latest lineup of devices at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This week, Samsung European Forum attendees will have the opportunity to see these new devices.

The Samsung Wave is the first mobile device to be powered by bada, Samsung's new open mobile development platform. This phone features the world's first "Super AMOLED" display for a brighter, clearer and less reflective surface. Moreover, Wave gives customers "TouchWiz 3.0" for a customizable user interface and "Social Hub" to bring contacts and connections closer. The Wave is one of a number of Samsung smartphones that will be powered by a 1 GHz processor in 2010.

Samsung will also display the Monte, a multimedia touch screen phone with a host of multimedia features and a sleek design with a glossy look, providing the style and performance at affordable price.

Samsung Apps, which launched on mobile phones last year, will expand in 2010. By the end of the year, Samsung Apps will be available to mobile phone users in 50 countries, Samsung said.

Samsung's emphasis on IT products will be on full display at the European Forum. Two new displays, the LED Pico Projector and the slim PX2370 monitor, use LED to ensure longer life and energy efficiency. Samsung's first large format display, the 650TS interactive whiteboard, has a touch screen and shares content with other devices. Foremost among these devices are Samsung?s first eBooks, the six-inch E60 and the ten-inch E100, which provide reading, writing and information sharing capabilities.

Samsung began 2010 with a significant strategic change, merging its PC and printer divisions. One-touch functionality is present in all of Samsung's new printers in 2010, removing complexity and creating new energy savings. The Samsung P580 and R580 notebooks and N210 and NB30 netbooks, meanwhile, possess features that enhance performance and battery life to give students and professionals tools that meet their specific needs. The stylish and durable Samsung P580 notebook comes packed with Intel?s Calpella Platform, a 16:9 LED Backlit LCD and an nVidia graphics processor while the R580 multimedia notebook has an "invisible" touch pad that blends into the palm rest.
