MSI has designed the new MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512 graphics cards for a demanding performance during gaming as they come equipped with an extra large 9cm fan.

The MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512 both come with a large 9cm fan which provides high heat dissipation and low noise. The MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512's 9cm large fan runs about 1000 rpm less (~2800 rpm) than the majority of graphics cards fans (3500-3800 rpm), while producing 60% more air flow. The two cards have a large heatsink with copper base and dual heatpipes. Next to that both cards have an extra heatsink on the power circuits. Combined with the extra large fan, MSI?s design can lower the ATI 4870 card's average temperature down by 20 degreees C.

The MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512 offer HDMI, DVI and D-Sub (VGA) ports. MSI ATI Radeon HD 4870, supports UVD 2.0 video decoder engine, which enables Blu-ray movie playback on any type of screen, and supports the latest DirectX 10 games.

Both cards are are equipped with the latest Solid State Choke (SSC) for more stable operations. This SSC choke is made to withstand extreme currents of the MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512, increasing the possibilities for overclocking. Furthermore, Solid State Chokes also helps to increase the power efficiency.

Both MSI R4870-MD1G and MSI R4870-MD512 are bundled with MSI software. For better picture quality the user can enable MSI VIVID Technology. To make overclocking easy, MSI equips MSI StarOSD (onscreen display to adjust settings) and MSI DOT (overclocking by predefined steps). MSI Live Update automatically downloads the latest available drivers and the MSI Dual Corecell displays system information about temperature, clock speeds, fan speeds and voltage levels.
