New Spy Shot Helps Confirm the Look of the iPhone 2

Last week, several pictures supposedly depicting the upcoming version of the iPhone appeared on the Web. Now, an image from a second source shows what is apparently the same device.

The latest image was leaked to AppleInsider, and while by itself it doesn't give much information on this upcoming smartphone, it looks a great deal like the earlier pictures, which were of higher quality.

More Rumors About the iPhone 3G

According to the best information available, the primary change in the upcoming model will be the inclusion of 3G. This will allow it to connect to faster cellular-wireless networks, increasing the speed at which users can surf the Web and exchange email. The current version uses the 2.5G standard EDGE.

That won't be the only hardware change, though. It will supposedly include a GPS receiver for location-based services.

Some reports indicate that this device will be thinner than its predecessor, while others say it will be slightly thicker.

As with the current model, there will reportedly be two versions, a 16 GB one and an 8 GB one.

The major software change in the upcoming version will be the ability to run native third-party applications that have been approved by Apple. Of course, current iPhones will get a system software upgrade to allow them to do this as well.
