CES: Panasonic Showcases New Blu-ray Drives For Notebooks


Japanese Panasonic exhibited two new internal slim Blu-ray burners at CES.

Both drives are desinged for notebook computers feature slim design - 12.77mm and 9.5mm height. Panasonic has also paid attention to the weight of the new devices, managing to reduce their weight by 22%, compared to previous designs.

Both multi DVD burners offer 2X writing and reading of BD-R and BD-RE media, for both single and dual layer. Support for DVD and CD formats is also included at the drive's specifications. According to the company, the product is also capable of reading and writing on organic pigment-type BD-R discs to be released in the future.

Commercialization os expected in Q1 of 2008.
