Samsung Launches Q1 Ultra UMPC

Q1 Ultra, is now available

"Since the introduction of the Q1, Samsung has been steadfastly committed to the long-term growth and development of this fast-growing product segment," said Christopher Franey, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Samsung Electronics America. "In creating the Q1 Ultra UMPC, Samsung has relied on consumer insights coupled with key technological advances to deliver a higher-performance solution packaged in an even more portable form factor that will appeal to a broader range of personal and professional users."

An Overview of the Q1 Ultra

Like virtually all UMPCs, the Q1 Ultra uses a tablet shape. In a slightly unusual move, though, it includes a split-QWERTY keypad located to the left and right of its 7-inch 1024-by-600-pixel (WSVGA) touchscreen.

It comes with either Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows XP Tablet Edition, and the user has the option of either a 600 MHz or 800 MHz processor. This UMPC also includes 1 GB of DDR2 RAM.

The Q1 Ultra offers 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, and a factory optional 3G HSDPA cellular-wireless modem.

This PC boasts two built-in cameras. One of these is a 300 pixel webcam, which , along with a high-performance dual-array microphone, enables video chatting/conferencing. The other is a 1.3 megapixel camera for video recording and still pictures.

It is also available with an integrated fingerprint reader enabling biometric security and fast application/website log-in.

Samsung promises that this model offers s a minimum of 4.5 hours of continuous run time on its integrated Lithium Ion prismatic batteries.

All of this fits in a device that weighs just 1.5 pounds.

Pricing and Availability

The Q1 Ultra UMPC is available in a number of configurations, with prices starting at $800
