Apple on Wednesday said its entire line of iMac computers would feature Intel Core 2 Duo processors, speeding up the performance of the personal computers.

The company also said it would offer a new 24-inch iMac, adding to a popular line of 17-inch and 20-inch models. IMac prices start at $999, it said.

The new computers are up to 50 percent faster performance than the previous iMac, the company said. Like the 17-inch and 20-inch versions, the 24-inch iMac features the new 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor with speeds ranging from 1.83GHz to 2.33GHz. It also doubles the amount of L2 cache, the twin cores sharing 4MB between them. Apple said the new line is shipping on Wednesday.
