VIA Releases VIA P4M890 PCI Express Desktop IGP Chipset


VIA Technologies is shipping the VIA P4M890 IGP chipset for the Intel Pentium 4 and Celeron platforms.

The P4M890's frontside bus runs at up to 1066MHz, and connects the CPU to as much as 4GB of memory. All four DDR clock speeds are supported, along with 400MHz and 533MHz DDR 2, all in dual-channel configuration. The VIA P4M890 supports up to two high bandwidth PCI Express ports for optional connection to the latest generation PCI graphics cards as well as an additional lane of PCI Express connectivity for PCI Express peripheral devices such as Gigabit Ethernet controllers and TV tuners.

Based on the VIA UniChrome Pro graphics core, the VIA P4M890 also delivers the Hi-Def experience through its integrated 2D/3D Chromotion CE video display engine for DVD playback and high multimedia performance, support for HDTV up to 1080p with a compatible DVI or TV encoder as well as outputs to CRT, LCD and standard definition TV.

The VIA P4M890 utilizes the 533MB/s VIA V-Link interface for connection to the latest VIA South Bridge solutions such as the VIA VT8237A with its integrated VIA Vinyl Multichannel Audio Suite. In addition, the VIA Advanced Connectivity Suite offers support for up to eight high-speed USB 2.0 ports and 10/100 Mb/s Fast Ethernet.
