BenQ Reportedly to Make DVD-ROM Drive Modules for Xbox 360

Philips BenQ Digital Storage (PBDS) has obtained OEM orders for DVD-ROM drive modules to be used in Microsoft?s Xbox 360 with shipments to begin this month.

The DigiTimes.com website reports that the information comes from industry sources, although BenQ has not officially commented on the report, citing customer confidentiality.

Hitachi LG Data Storage (HLDS) was the sole OEM maker of DVD-ROM drive modules for Xbox 360 consoles currently sold thus far. BenQ used to indirectly secure OEM orders for DVD-ROM drive modules that went into earlier Xbox models.
