Hitachi Maxell expands DVD-R disc capacity

Hitachi Maxell announced plans to double production capacity for DVD-R discs to 700,000 units or more a month by fiscal year 2002 (beginning April). The company will add a second DVD-R production line at facilities in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture.

The first line started up in fiscal year 2001 with a monthly capacity of 350,000 discs. Since volume production began, DVD-R disc demand has risen significantly, and Hitachi Maxell can no longer fulfill all orders with just one line.
