LaCie Chooses Sonic for DVD Creation Software Bundle

Sonic Solutions announced today that LaCie has selected Sonic's award-winning DVDit! and MyDVD authoring software for its new external FireWire® DVD-R drive as well as it's DVD-RW drive. By combining rewritable and write-once DVD capabilities, flexible FireWire connectivity and Sonic's MyDVD 3 and DVDit! LE 2.3 software, LaCie's DVD drives meet the needs of consumers, businesses and content professionals for applications ranging from home movie authoring and editing to secondary data storage, image archiving, small-scale distribution, and backup.

LaCie has chosen to bundle both Sonic's consumer-level MyDVD recording software as well as Sonic's higher-end DVDit! software, targeted for desktop professionals. By combining both applications with LaCie's FireWire DVD drives, LaCie addresses the largest range of users with the most powerful and flexible applications available for DVD recording and authoring. With the ability to move effortlessly between applications, LaCie users will have the flexibility to record their video directly to DVD using MyDVD, or create elaborate interactive DVD presentations with DVDit!. Both MyDVD and DVDit! are based on Sonic's renowned AuthorScript® formatting engine, the same technology used in Sonic's ``Hollywood class'' professional authoring systems.

``We looked for a DVD application that was simple and easy to use, yet flexible and powerful enough to be utilized in professional business situations,'' said Scott Phillips, President at LaCie. ``For home users looking to quickly archive and share home movies on DVD, MyDVD is the best solution. For videographers and creative developers who need to create more sophisticated interactive projects for small-scale distribution, DVDit! has the power and flexibility required. Together, the two applications offer unparalleled ease of use along with the advanced features that our users demand.''

``We are extremely pleased to be working with LaCie,'' said Mark Ely, General Manager of the Consumer Business Group at Sonic. ``With their DVD drives, LaCie has created top-of-the-line offerings for DVD content creation and archiving, and we are glad that DVDit! and MyDVD are able to play an integral role in their product offering.''

LaCie's external FireWire DVD-R system, which writes to both DVD-R and DVD-RAM disks, and includes both Sonic MyDVD and DVDit! is available through leading distributors and resellers across the country. Starting at $549, the external drives ship complete with cables, software drivers and software bundles. LaCie's DVD-RW drive, which writes to DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW media, also includes Sonic MyDVD and DVDit! and is available at a suggested price of $649.
