Quanta Storage Moves into CE Market

Quanta Storage has extended its production to consumer electronics, and will initially focus on portable and car-use DVD players, according to the company.

Quanta Storage is the largest manufacturer of slim-type optical disc drives (ODDs) in Taiwan.

The company has already developed a portable DVD player model and plans to launch the product for sale under the NU brand next quarter, the company indicated. The company will also add other functions such as a TV receiver and GPS (global position system) by next year.

NU, originally Quanta Storage's own-brand business group, was spun off from the company in March of this year. However, Quanta Storage also hopes to compete for ODM/OEM orders for the CE products.
