CMC Magnetics to add investment in China and Mexico

CMC Magnetics will add US$6.29 million to its investment in Fortune (Jiangsu) Multimedia, a China-based joint venture that produces blank optical discs according to DigiTimes...

and the company is also adding US$20 million to its investment in one of its subsidiaries, Vigobyte Tape Corporation, a maker of pre-recorded and blank optical discs in Mexico, according to the company. CMC invested US$10.5 million to establish Fortune (Jiangsu) Multimedia in August 2002 in order to produce blank CD-R/RW blank discs for the China market, as well as for export. The additional investment will be a conversion of CMC?s earnings from the joint venture into an incremental stake, CMC indicated.

The additional investment in Vigobyte will be through CMC's two overseas subsidiary holding firms, EMC Holding and F5 Holding. Vigobyte mainly produces movie DVD discs, CD-ROM discs and blank CD-R discs for the North American market.
