AMD shows off first Geode chipset

AMD has announced the availability of its first development board designed specifically for its low-power Geode NX processor line.

The Geode NX DB1500 board and reference design includes a chipset from Silicon Integrated Systems in a small Mini-ITX form factor. It has been designed for thin client applications and embedded systems using Windows or open source software.

"Our customers feel enormous pressure to transform big ideas into little devices," said Erik Salo, director of marketing at AMD's personal connectivity solutions group.

"The new development board helps engineers speed through the design phase and get their high performance, fanless products to market on time and under budget."

The board supports up to 1GB of double data rate DRam, a PCI 2.2 expansion slot, USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 Ethernet, TFT and AC 97 audio codes.

To make life easier for system builders it features debugging test points and LEDs to show system activity. A complete set of hardware design files, including schematics and layouts, are also included in the $599 price per unit.
