Premier Image to launch 8.1-megapixel DSCs

Premier Image Technology will offer the DS8330, an 8.1-megapixel digital still camera (DSC), for sale under its own brand, Premier, in the Taiwan market early next month.

The DS8330 features 3x optical zoom, 5.1x digital zoom and 1GB of memory. Camera dimensions are 9.1?5.7?2.7cm. This camera also has a chassis of magnesium alloy and is 150 grams in weight. At a retail price of NT$16,900 (US$539), the model will be available at camera stores, 3C (computer, communication, consumer electronics) retail chains and on TV shopping channels, Lead Image noted.

In addition, Premier Image will exhibit and sell 12 DSC models at the 2005 Taipei Multimedia Computer Show, scheduled for February 24 through 28, Lead Image said. While focusing on ODM/OEM production, Premier Image takes a low-key attitude in own-brand marketing, Lead Image pointed out.

Acer has had Premier Image undertake OEM production of 8-megapixel DSCs, with the products to be launched on the international market, under the Acer brand, in April, according to Acer. These DSCs are based on the DS8330 prototype, with shapes and user interfaces designed by Acer itself, the company added.
