General manager of LiteOn IT reveals the company's sales plans in China.
Lite-On IT has begun to sell optical disc drives (ODDs) under its own brand, Liteon, in China through the marketing network own by Synnex Technology International, Taiwan's largest 3C (computer, communication, consumer electronics) distributor, with a target sales volume of more than one million units this year, according to general manager Michael Gong, speaking for the company's Optical Disc Drive Business Unit.
Demand in the China market is estimated to be five million ODDs in 2005, and Lite-On IT hopes to reach a market share of over 20%, Gong pointed out. Since the penetration of DVD burners in China is still low, Combo (DVD-ROM plus CD-RW) models will be the mainstream for its ODD sales there, Gong indicated. Lite-On IT expects to sell more than 500,000 Combo drives in China this year, Gong added.
In addition, Lite-On IT's own-brand sales have scored points in Australia and South Korea, gaining the largest and the third-largest local market shares, respectively, according to Gong.
