Sharp outdoes Sanyo in sales

Sharp Corp said Tuesday it boosted its group sales in April-December last year by 13.9% from a year earlier to 1,907.71 billion yen, outdoing its rival Sanyo Electric Co with group sales at 1,886.20 billion yen, up 0.1%.

Sharp raised its sales ranking to eighth among the nine largest Japanese electrical machinery makers, supported by brisk sales of its liquid crystal display televisions and cell phones. Its LCD TV sales expanded 90% from the same period the year before to about 1.9 million units.
