Acer TravelMate 8100 Delivers Unprecedented Performance for Mobile Users


Unparalleled List of Features, Including PCI Express and 128MB ATI RADEON Graphics, Highlight Next Generation Sonoma-Based Notebook

Acer(R) America Corporation, one of the leading worldwide suppliers of IT solutions, today introduced the TravelMate(TM) 8100 to its award-winning line of TravelMate notebooks. Featuring Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Centrino(TM) Mobile Technology, the TravelMate 8100 delivers cutting-edge performance, multiple connectivity options through 802.11b/g and more than 4 hours of battery life in a thinner, lighter notebook PC. Designed as both a mobile workhorse while also offering the performance of a desktop replacement, the TravelMate 8100 is an ideal system that meets the needs of users of business professionals regardless of their location, environment or workload.

The TravelMate 8100 is the next-generation offering of Acer's award-winning TravelMate 800/8000 platform. Originally announced in March 2003, the TravelMate 800/8000 has been widely acclaimed as the highest performing thin-and-light notebook available while receiving many industry accolades, including Editors Choice designations from PC Magazine, C/net, ZDnet, and Tech Edge Magazine, a Best Buy award from Laptop Magazine and the #1 rated multi-purpose notebook in PC World Magazine.

Comprehensive Flexibility

The new TravelMate 8100 series, designed on Intel's latest "Sonoma" platform, is based on next-generation Intel Mobile Centrino technology that supports PCI Express(TM) architecture with 533MHz FSB and utilizes DDR2 533 memory for truly exceptional performance. Supporting Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processors with speeds of up to 2GHz and the new Intel(R) 915PM Express chipset with 533MHz System Bus, the TravelMate 8100 offers full wireless connectivity through the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG network connection chipset that harnesses the IEEE 802.11a/b/g tri-mode WiFI Certified(TM) standard. Standard system memory is 512MB DDR2 533 that is scaleable to 2048MB while the ATA/100 Hard Disk offers a storage capacity of up to an exceptional 100GB. All these features render the performance of the TravelMate(TM) 8100 equal to the most powerful desktops and provide enough flexibility to handle even the most complex applications.

All models feature a DVD-Super Multi Double Layer burner installed in the AcerMedia Bay (hot swappable), and a 5-in-1 card reader that supports MultiMediaCard (MMC), Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick(R), Memory Stick PRO(TM) and xD standards.

The TravelMate 8100 series offers complete multimedia functionality thanks to the bright active matrix 15.4" widescreen TFT display (WSXGA+ res.1680x1050), driven by the powerful ATI(R) MOBILITY(TM) RADEON(TM) X700 graphics card with 128MB external DDR VRAM memory with support for Microsoft(R) DirectX(R) 9.0 and ATI Powerplay(TM) 5.0; The audio functions are compatible with SoundBlaster-Pro and MS-Sound(TM) and also feature integrated speakers and microphone.

The TravelMate 8100 has a truly comprehensive range of connectivity options: a V.92 56Kbit/sec fax/modem, a 10/100/1000 Fast Ethernet network card, Wireless connectivity through the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG (IEEE 802.11a/b/g) chipset with integrated antenna. The TM 8100 also slips comfortably into Personal Area Networks thanks to the integrated Bluetooth(TM) module.

The TravelMate 8100 also offers a complete range of I/O ports including an S-Video port (NTSC/PAL), a Firewire IEEE 1394 port for rapid data transfer and instant connection to a vast range of multimedia devices and a DVI digital port.

The new optional Acer ezDock docking station, with PCI Express interface, guarantees perfect office integration with existing and next-generation peripherals without interface problems.

The TravelMate 8100 notebook series come preinstalled with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional operating system and a complete range of utility programs. These include Acer eManager (ePresentation, eSetting, ePowerManagement and eRecovery) and Acer GridVista. The first gives rapid and intuitive access to a wealth of notebook utilities, while the second makes full use of the widescreen format and "splits" the screen into compartments in order to enhance visibility and therefore efficiency when working with several programs at once.
