Yuan to give up graphics-card business, focus on multimedia products

Taiwan-based Yuan High-Tech Development, which makes graphics cards using GPUs from ATI Technologies, has decided to withdraw from the graphics-card market.

This despite other major IT makers such as Asustek Computer and Foxconn Electronics (the registered trade name of Hon Hai Precision Industry) expanding their production of graphics cards.

Yuan will gradually phase out its graphics-card business and focus its resources on developing video and multimedia products. The change in strategy was initiated in May, when the company?s newly appointed CEO John Chen assumed his post. Chen outlined Yuan?s goals and the challenges it may face in a recent interview with DigiTimes.
