Canon Announces New SELPHY DS700 Compact Photo Printer

Canon's new SELPHY DS700 Compact Photo Printer expands the possibilities of digital imaging by allowing consumers to both view and print their pictures using the biggest screen in the house - the television

This inkjet-based compact photo printer lets people take their digital photo printing out of the computer room and into the comfort of their living room with the ability to view slide shows, make basic photo edits and print their images from their television screen.

"As digital imaging evolves and becomes more integrated into the consumer's lifestyle, people are looking for simple and convenient solutions to share their images in a way that the whole family can enjoy and participate in," said Yukiaki Hashimoto, senior vice president and general manager of the consumer imaging group at Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ). "The new Compact Photo Printer SELPHY DS700 provides consumers with a solution that lets them view their images in large sizes on a TV screen and navigate through photos easily with a remote control, making it a personal and fun experience where memories can be printed directly on the spot."

The SELPHY DS700 Compact Photo Printer allows users to display photos directly on the TV screen and easily select images to print via a remote control. Two separate modes for printing include a slide show mode, which enable users to pause and instantly print the images they like, and the photo print mode where users can select the images they want to print and how many of each image with the click of the remote.

Canon designed the photo print mode to duplicate the easy user interface of its popular Easy-PhotoPrint software. The SELPHY DS700 Compact Photo Printer features media card slots, which are compatible with a wide range of digital media, including Compact Flash, Microdrive, Smart Media, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, SD Card and Multimedia Card. Additional media cards, which can be used with an adapter (sold separately), include xD-Picture Card, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Duo Pro, miniSD Card.

The new SELPHY DS700 Compact Photo Printer features PictBridge technology for direct photo printing. Users simply connect their PictBridge compatible digital camera or camcorder to the printer with the USB cable that is included with their camera.

In addition to printing in the living room using the TV and included remote, photos can be printed on the SELPHY DS700 Compact Photo Printer direct from camera-equipped mobile phones wirelessly through infrared transmission (IrDA)(c) as well as PC printing with a USB connection.

The FINE (Full-photolithographic Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) print head of the printer ejects ink droplets as small as 2 picoliters at resolutions up to 4800 x 1200 dpi(d) achieving stunning photographic results when matched with special Canon photo media. The newly developed image processing platform enables printing of 4 x 6 inch borderless photos in approximately 85 seconds(e) from both Card Direct and Camera Direct functions. From a computer, users can print 4 x 6 inch borderless photos in approximately 52 seconds(f).

The SELPHY DS700 Compact Photo Printer was designed to maximize performance with a small dimensions of only 8.5" (W) x 8.5" (D) x 3.1" (H). Paper loading, feeding and ejection are all done at the front of the printer allowing it to fit in tight spaces. A variety of printing projects can be completed with paper choices of 4 x 6 inch or credit card sizes and multiple layouts, where several pictures can be placed on one page from card direct and PC printing.

The Easy PhotoPrint software bundled with the SELPHY DS700 model makes batch printing, printing large numbers of photos, index printing, and layout printing easy. With Canon's Easy-PhotoPrint software, consumers can print photos quickly using simple menu choices to locate digital images, pick paper size and type, and choose the layout and print. Other features that help produce realistic digital images include Vivid Photo to print life-like vibrant colors and Photo Noise Reduction to decrease noise from digital images. New tools added include Face Sharpening for out-of-focus face correction and Face Brightener to help correct for less-than perfect lighting conditions.

Canon's new SELPHY DS700 Compact Photo Printer will be available this fall for an estimated selling price of $199.99.
