Taiwan ODD production value to grow 31.49%, optical discs to grow 19.85%

Taiwan?s production value for optical disc drives (ODDs) will grow 31.49% this year to NT$138.2 billion (US$4.08 billion).

At the same time, optical disc production value will grow 19.85% to NT$93.6 billion (US$2.76 billion), according to projections by the Taiwan-based Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK).

Increases in second-quarter ODD production value this year were mainly due to fast-growing shipments of DVD burners and DVD recorders, while the decrease in optical-disc production value was due to continued drops in CD-R OEM prices, IEK pointed out.
