BER

Bit Error Rate

Is one method of testing the integrity of data. BER is the number of bits divided by the total number of bits received. The problem with BER is that it counts large and small burst errors equally and not the distribution of the errors. The usual rate for a CD-ROM is 1 per 1012 bits.
