The Adaptec 2940 BIOS sees the drive but WIN98 does not.

If you are able to access the drive from the host adapter, attempt to verify the drive (consider performing a low level format on the drive). If this works, boot to a DOS diskette and see if FDISK sees the drive. FDISK should report the total drive space available. If FDISK can not see the drive, make sure the last physical device on the cable is terminated. All other devices on the SCSI bus should not be terminated. Make sure termination power is set correctly. Normal setting for Term Power on an Adaptec controller is from the bus. Also, each SCSI device must have a unique SCSI ID set (set with jumpers on most drives). Double check the cable for proper connection and free of breaks.

If you do decide to perform a low level format, do not abort the format as this is likely to make the drive inoperable. Also, it is a good idea to protect against power failure or other power interruptions during the format. Keep in mind that it may take up to one hour per gigabyte to low level format the drive. Do not reboot or otherwise disrupt the process.
