The message: "DISK BOOT FAILURE" appeared on the screen.

If this error message is based on a hardware problem from the disc drive, then it is not likely caused by a virus. If the error message is from the BIOS (because it cannot find a partition table), then you may have the right idea because some viruses do scramble the partition table. Double check all BIOS settings. If you want your data, do NOT create a new partition record because that would erase the File Allocation Table (FAT). If you type FDISK /STATUS you may get an indication that the system detects the drive. If the drive is being detected correctly, you may need only to run FDISK /MBR to replace the Master Boot Record. Sometimes, it is required to replace the system files with the SYS command (Windows startup disc and run SYS C:).
