Yup, first post. And it's a new thread. I apologize.

What's the deal with this combination? I'm on my second drive of the same model (LTN 1633s). I returned the first one out of frustration when the spool of Sony DVD-R 4X media (ID SONY04D1) kept giving me "Illegal Media" messages (I never updated firmware). I later found a mention that that specific make of DVD didn't play well with the drive.
I've now got another drive, updated to BSOS firmware. I burned lots of Sony 8x DVD+Rs - no problem. First time I put a 04D1 in, it stalled out at no message and locked up the PC with green light on drive and full spin. Had to hard reset the machine.

Does this media work now? If so, how?

I suppose this has already been addressed somewhere, or it's institutional knowledge, and maybe it goes in the Drives or Firmware forum. But I searched every forum I could for 1633s, sony media, etc., and didn't find an answer. Thanks in advance for your kind replies.

how about trying BS41 firmware and see if made any progress? probably its a firmware glitch

I'll give it a shot. From what I see the file from Codeguys requires an additional program to actually install it. Off to read...

I'm assuming no one else has experience with the combination - good or bad?

With LiteOn drives better use +R media.
