Hey everyone,
I've been burning a few dvd's flawlessly now, but ran across my first problem today when backing up Any Given Sunday. I've been using Dvd Shrink newest version to rip and encode and burn. This was the first dvd where i needed to compress the file, and i used to Author option in order to remove any needless extras. Anyway, before I burned, I played the .vob files created by dvd shrink to make sure the compression looked okay. It looked great ( I used the high quality error compensation thing). I then burned to DVD+R. The dvd plays great on powerdvd, and on my PS2. However, there are artifacts galore on my brand new Toshiba TV/DVD combo player. The movie looks like a complete mess. All my other dvd+r's play perfectly on it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome.

For better quality, when a compression is nesseceray, run also deep analysis.

What burner do you have and which media did you try?

It is probably the media or you need a newer firmware revision for your drive.

I have the new lite-on SHOW-1633s.
Memorex 8x DVD+R.

Just not sure why the problem would only surface on certain dvd players, namely my Toshiba?

What firmware does your 1633 has? Get the latest.

It might be a bad burn and your Toshiba to have low error correction or it is incompatible with those media. Are they made from CMC Magnetics?

Ca you try with a different media?

I'm not sure about CMC Magnetics- don't see that written anywhere on the dvd's or packaging.

I don't have any other dvd+r media with me currently. These had been working just fine.

Is it possible that my Toshiba has trouble reading compressed DVD's? That really seems to be the only variable.

I didn't see the need to download any firmware updates, but I guess this could call for it. I will go to the lite-on website and install it.

Trouble with compressed, probably not.

The firmware most times muches more media while improves the writng quality for other by adjusting the writing strategy.

As for Memorex check their ID using a capable utility for this such as DVDinfoPro or even from Nero CDSpeed.

You said that those media were just fine, in the same Toshiba player? What about with other movies?

Yea that media has worked with other movies fine in the Toshiba.

Should I update with that firmware or from the Lite ON website?

The firmware is the same in both cases. The download from LiteOn is slow most times.

Anyway the newer firmware the better.

How many times did you burned this movie?

There are two newer firmware than this one. Personaly I would flash it.

How many copies of this backup did you try on your player? Sometimes a disc happens to have problems.

I only burned the movie once, but it plays perfectly in two dvd players- my computer's and my PS2.

It might be a coincidence. Personaly, always, I would install the new firmware and repeat the burn. However probably might be this of the error correction but the firmware doesn't costs anything to try it.
