OK Finally my dvd-burner is writing at it is blazing at 16x but at 16x it makes too many errors so I want to slow it down. But my Nero 6.6.0.3 only supports 16x, 2.4x, 2x and 1x, doesn't my drive support 4x and 8x burning speeds? Do I need any firmare or what to change in nero???

I have Firwmare G7P9. I think its the latest in the "G" types.

strange it should support also 4x/8x, try update nero to the latest available version

I just gave XP a good restart and put in a shiny new disc and suddenly it has multiple write speeds (12x, 8x, 4x).
