The audio cable is purely for CD Audio analogue signal and is nothing to do with the digital audio from a DVD. This is processed via the motherboard & sound card wave function and is controlled by the wave control of the audio device.

Not to try and make this silly, but have you gone into the control panel, and check SOUND to make sure everything is okay there, i.e. nothing is checked to mute? Also select "speakers" and make sure your settings are correct, and not set to digital.

Can you play wav files or MP3 files from your hard drive?

I, too, have the same problem. I haven't changed any configuration to my machine, and now whenever I try to play/burn DVDs, I get no sound. MP3s, regular CDs work just fine. I don't know what happened...

Go to CONTROL PANEL / Sounds
or
MIXER (or VOLUME) in the notification area

and just ENABLE or SET sound output.

Just to let you know that I reinstalled Nero and now everything works again. It seems like maybe one of my codecs got screwed up. Maybe this will help Razorback...???
