Please go to my firmware site to see it for yourself. The original firmwares have the same write strategy. There is already a modded firmwar available on the site with bitsetting.

ahh, i didnt read that far down on the page of your site. So 3.22 has autobitsetting for +R/RW/DL+R media whereas 3.03 only has autobitsetting for DL+R but doesnt doesnt even support bitsetting for +R/RW? Looks like ill be sticking with 3.22 or i might go with the official firmware release from NEC.

great site btw, keep up the good work.

Ive just flashed my nec 3520A with 3.22 firmware and it enabled the bitsetting for a DVD+R SL but disabled it for DVD+RDL how come?
P.s I got this info from Binflash gui 1.14.

Thanks.

has anyone else tried burning a DL+R with 3.22? did it change it to -ROM?

i heard verbatim DL+R's are currently the best compatability wise. If it doesnt change the booktype to -ROM, does anyone know how good the compatability is for verbatim DL+R's? i bought 2 and im gonna test one w/firmware 3.22 but i dont wanna waste a disc.

rahzel, the 3.22 firmware AUTOBISETS +R/+RW and +R DL media to DVD-ROM
the 3.03 firmware allows to bitset DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM (default DVD-ROM), and doesn't support bitsetting for +R/+RW formats...

In terms of writing strategies both firmwares seems to be the same so its better to stick with 3.22

i just tried a brand new DVD+RW and it still didnt change it to -ROM with v3.22. I did do a full erase before i burnt anything on it but i dotn think that would make it not change it to -ROM.

i have a DL+R but ive yet to try it yet but so far, only SL+R changed the booktype to -ROM. Has anyone else tried a DVD+RW with v3.22?

also, i dumped my original stock 1.04 firmware with binflash, i tried flashing back to it but it wouldnt work. I had to download it off scorpios website. Also, when NEC releases their official firmware update that supports DL-R, can i use binflash to flash the official NEC firmware update? or do the NEC official firmware updates have their own flasher.

ok last few question i promiss =]. Why are the firmware updates on scorpios site larger in file size compared to the ones you posted emporer? ie) 1.04, yours are like 500-600kb whereas scorpios are like just under a MB.

Because firmwares on Sorpiosoft are compressed with ZIP... and here they are compressed with RAR =) lol
And some are also firmwares with build in flasher (or the other way around.. just a matter of perspective =P ) that are larger than only plain firmware binary file.

Hi, just found out about these forums and the firmware that you provide for NEC drives, which is handy since I have the 3520A.

Anyway, just a question on how this firmware works.

I downloaded the 3.22 firmware, the modded I-O Data one from scorpios site, the one with Riplock unlocked and what not
(I'm finding the drive incredibly slow).

I've just been reading a disk, and it is still going incredibly slowly. So can you clear this up for me, the riplock feature slows down the burning, or reading, or both for optimum performance, and if it's to do with the reading of the disk why is it reading slowly

The riplock works only with DVD-Video discs, for other technical questions please use the main NEC forum and not this thread

Hello, all. :)

Ive been reading the FW details and i do understand what RIPlock is, and almost get the bit setting thing
BUT

Is there a FW that will allow me to Burn @ 16X on normal Rytek 8X -R media ?

i had a pioneer before this and there was a FW to do just this.

why would you want to? do you want to increase error rates? Maybe burn high quality 8x media at 16x but not average media like Ritek.

The Pioneer FW out the box would Burn 12x on 8x Media With no problems at all and then after a Hacked FW it could Burn @ 16x on 8x media, again With No errors.
Almost any Media useing the Rytek 8x Die with no problems.

I must have burnt 100's of movies this way, as did 1000's of other prople around the world.

These NEC 3520A can burn 16x, Is there a FW that will allow upto 16x burning on all dvd-r media?
