I've been contacting an online store (here in Sweden) asking about the TLA # on their PX-716A.
They say they can't find any info about it, they have contacted their dealer and they haven't been able to help them with that info either...

Doesn't Plextor put some sign, an info sticker on the box about TLA #?

The TLA # is supposed to be printed on the outside of the box and on the drive itself! Every Plextor drive I've ever purchased did.

I have heard the same thing. That it is supposed to be printed on the box.
So I was confused when they said they can't find info. about that nor can their
dealer!

I guess I'll mail them again, asking them if they can take a box and have a look.
Perhaps they just ran product info they have on the computer... lazy people!

Well I just received a new European drive today from Komplett and it's reading a TLA# of 0203 manufactured in China during January 2005, so TLA0304 must be very recent. Any idea as to what's been addressed in the latest hardware revision?

Plextor hasn't said, they will let you know about new firmware, but not hardware build! Strange isn't it?!

It is really strange, today I got my PX-716A and it has firmware TLA#0304. And it was made on December 6th, 2004. Thats more than 2 months ago!
So they already have had the improvements since the beginning of Dec. but obviously wanted to flush their distribution channels at first to get rid of the previous not-so-good revisions. I bet they already have TLA#04xx and TLA#05xx in queue!

What's the big deal on the TLA# revision anyway? I have a #203 and it is a fine drive. Could simply have something to do with the manufacturing plant. I gotta believe Plextor builds them in multiple places. If someone has some hard proof on what has changed, speak up. I really doubt this is an issue.... and if it is Plextor may simply just have people hook line and sinker. I've visited another forum and folks are inquiring on who has the TLA#0304 and ordering another one.

Lets have some patience and find out what's going on... The testers on this forum may have some insight.

I suppose each hardware revision has a limited number of drives, so even there is no serious change, they just reset the counter (or i should say they add +1)

hey guys. new to the forum and all but I've tried to keep up with the latest through here. anyhow, I'm pretty set on getting a plextor 716 (unless someone else can vouch otherwise) and I was just wondering if the SATA and IDE makes any performance difference or if its just a matter of convienence. oh yeah, any tips about where I should purchase online to get the latest TLA model would be great too. Thanks

hi zanarkand and welcome to our forums, IDE to SATA converters had some problems with motherboards, so i don't think that getting a SATA drive is the best choice, unless you have no spare IDE channels to hook up the PX-716A drive. There should be not performance hit between SATA/IDE models, so getting an internal and cheaper PX-716A is the best choice for your.

I have upgraded to 1.04 , now I don't see neither in nero or in plextools that the drive is able to burn dvd-r dl and dvd +r dl at 6x .
how do I enter or when do you get stuff in your autostrategy database? there's always nothing there.
is tdk a good brand.. well tdk is not budget but autostrategy says that my brandnew tdk media dvd-r 1-8x has poor mechanical characteristic and in the text always says 'not good'
really fustrating.

Original TDK media (TTG01/02 for -R and TDK 01/02 for +R) isn't of very high quality in terms of high-speed-writing from to my experience ... but TDK also sells Taiyo Yuden and Ricoh media which is high quality. The absolute downside is that you can also get TDK manufactured by CMC ... you'll never know when you buy these.
