Hi , i'm new here let me quickly introduce myself
I'm a3ke , i'm not new to boards and forum's so i won't bother you anymore then needed



I just bought me a NEC 3500 and flased it succesfully with the latest firmware i could find

218btrpc1.rar NEC-ND3500A 2.18 including bitsetting support for SL DVD+R and DVD+RW (from Mad Dog 2.FA), RPC1 & Riplock Removed. BETA Firmware! (NEW 15-11-2004)

I also noticed/found that i could burn 8x media @ 16 x from cdrinfo's chart , is this information correct ?

I just ordered me 1 spindel of each media to confirm this , also test the write quality so that i can stock up on the best that comes out of the test

Now my questions

1)is the info on speed on previous 2 media true
2)is the expected burn less quality-full then , if yes what i presume , is it to much qualityloss ?
3)all my life i only have used plextor and DVD-R for everything , now going to +R and the NEC , will i have problems or what should i have to know ?
4)having no more plextors soon , what mediaqualitytestprograms would you recommend ? (2 NEC 3500's in a barebone)
i allready tried DVDinfopro but it gives me a stall on the PI/PO test over the NEC

I think both media can burned up to 16X without any problems, as for scanning i would just use the same NEC drive and do a transfer rate test

that's the problem , latest dvdinfopro gives me "selected drive not supported for this feature" on the NEC

how can I PI/PO test etc from now on ? :(

I also have a NEC 3500 with 2.17 firmware and get the same error message, so I doubt it's the new firmware. I would also like ot know if there's any fix / way around this. I tried it with my Sony 16x DVD-Rom and was able to run the Pie/Pif test... it didn't complete... but I had the option and didn't get the error.

EDIT: Just flashed to 2.18SE and still doesn't work.

so what would be your recomendation for me to test the burnquality of my NEC on different media ?

i'm running out of media and haven't tested wich is most suitable for my necdrive , i would like to test it myself hense i had alot of bad burns , high PIPO etc on my plextor with Ritek media , only MCC and CMC gave sweet burns with my plextor 712

i would like to know this for sure , i ordered different media to test uppon before i place a big order of the best resulted media

This doesn't check for errors does it? How accurate is it?

this test will show if the disc is readable, meaning if there are problems, either the reading curve would be distorded or will show error message
