well, just be happy with a region-free drive
Don't be worry, you can of course play back all the region 2 dvds, but your also able to play back all the other dvds from different regions!

So RPC-1/2 has no influence on the BURNING process ? Instead of making "european DVDs" I burn in the US standart ?

RPC1 means the drive will read & play back any region coded DVD. This has no bearing on the burning process and if the Title Set of the DVD is presented correctly the DVD produced will be region free. When burning a DVD Title Set the region coding is controled by the files in the Title Set and not by the burner, RPC2 means the drive will only play back the single selected region disc which can only be changed a limited number of times. RPC1 means the drive will play back any region disc without any restrictions. Burning burns the Title Set which contains the region codeing of that particular film (if any)

Hi Flash,
I'm a newbie here, I've got a similar concern, my Burner is asking me to swap regions to read a different DVD, whilst warning me I can only change regions 4 more times.

Are you suggesting that if I change it tp RPC1 then that will read all DVD region codes?
Secondly, why is this limit (4 changes) in place and can it be overridden?

thanks

Gman

Yo gman,

rpc1 switches off the region protection of the drive, meaning there is no limit whatsoever. It is a very handy hack if you have original dvds from different regions. The limit is ofcourse to prevent from playing import dvd-titles because in USA they are way ahead with moviereleases than in Europe for example. If you make your drive rpc1 you will be able to play movies with all region protections. Ofcourse there are other ways to remove the region protection, for example using dvddecrypter, but bear in mind that you only use it to make a backup for your own sake!

Not meaning to sound dumb, but how exactly do I switch from RPC-1 to RPC-2

Thanks in advance

G.

Late update:
It's been suggested to me that all my problems will be solved if I buy a separate DVD Rom (reader) as this is not region specific.
I'll give this a go, thanks guys.

Hi Me again,

I've just installed a DVD Rom & guess what its Region coded as well.
So is it easy to change from RPC 2 to RPC 1 (is this what is meant by doing a firmware update).
And how do I do this?

thanks in advance

Gman
