Hi all. ive just joined the forum after upgrading from a NEC 1300a a NEC3500a.
Ive flashed the drive with 2C8_SE_Ritek_4X_DL.bin at it seems ok but was wondering about speeds.
Ive put a 8x dvd-r in and nero says the maximum speed is 8x.
am i correct in thinking i should be able to get 12x or is that only certain disc's.

That is correct for DVD-R. For TY DVD+R you will get the full benefit of 16X burn.

Liggy's speedhackied firmware can do 12x on some 8x DVD-R

There are some media, -R or +R, that can be burned up to 12X or even 16X.

Nec 3500 burns Verbatim dvd-r 8X (mcc02r...) up to 12X

every media i tried so far, is only burned 8x.

so my new 3500 is not faster than my old 2500@2510

Check this page. It is for previous firmware but as far as I know things would be better than this.

Taiyo Yuden (YUDEN000T02) 8X media which can be purchased from Rima, can be burned at 16X speed. I purchased some a couple weeks ago and have yet to have a single problem with them burning at 16X.

i never had problems so far.

i have a new nd-3500AG now and i have problems.
i flashed 2c8.

but!

it takes longer to burn a complete dvd+r wth nd-3500 than with nd-2500 !!!

nd-2500: 9:28
nd-3500: 9:46

what can i do???

if it does not burn 12x, shouldn't it burn as fast (8x) as the 2500 at least?

so i tried more media

verbatim dvd+r 8x
verbatim dvd-r 8x
platinum dvd+r 8x
platinum dvd-r 8x
philips dvd+r 8x
philips dvd-r 8x

but the result is always the same.
the 2500 is fatser than the 3500.
i am very disapointed so far.

with ShowActualWriteSpeed in nero i can see,
that the 3500 write speed is extremly fluctuating
it start at 12x (leadin)
track start 4x
5% 6x
15% 3,3x
18% 6x
20% 8x
28% 7x
36% 8x
39% 10x
46% 3,7x
.......
and so on ....

my hdds are defragmented and my sys is very well trimed and my pc is fast enough
athlon-xp 3200
(the nd-2500 has no probs in that system)


what can i do?

with mad dogs 2f9 i do not have these problems!
the philips dvd+r 8x are burning fine at 12x
