Well 2500 and 2510 were picky about scratched media, but not at all times, I really cant explain but there definitely are some problems. 3500A improved DVD reading a lot, also it can read DVD-+R @16x speed which is very nice.

Well - thank you all for answering my thread but you know what.
Im going to get the Nec-3500a
its good - i dont know if its better then the lg but i think its pretty much the same
and the only advantage the nec has over the lg is that the store next to my house has the nec and dont have the lg in stock :)
so - thats it...

the conclition from this thread :
There is no batter or more suitted drive for you needs ... Get the LG\NEC\PIONNER ... dont matter - just ****ing get one ;)

Can the 3500 change the booktype on DL disks or only SL disks to DVD-ROM?

I have bought LG4160B today and next week will test my drive!

I don't like NEC due to the reading is not as good as LG, and pioneer is the most expensive among LG and NEC!

I think ADM should thing what's his need! for example, writing quality? media support? booktype support? etc...

3 of the drives are good!!!

Hi everybody. I also made my decision. I'm going for the NEC. It is the most cheapest and DL is not interesting at the moment, concidering the price of a DL-empty-disc.
Also, the NEC is the cheapest. If I see a cheap LG, than I don't know yet...

Good luck and thanks for the support!

Trying to make my choice between Liteon 1633 and Nec 3500. As I understand most are for Nec. What concerns me is packet writing. I use CDRW as a floppy quite often and Nec does not have Mount Rainier. Is it critical? Anither thing: is it easy to make Nec multi-region?

Personally, I don't think Mount Ranier is that important. To make the NEC multi-region just flash with one of the RPC1 firmwares found here at CDRInfo...best at the moment is 2C8SE

I wouldn't dare to compare 1633 to 3500, it is just too much.

As for packet writing I definately don't recomment it.

So what would you recommend instead to use with re-writable CDs?

I don't said don't use CD-RW. As for recording way there is always the ordinary one. I personaly at this moment use Nero Burning Rom.

Too my opinion one of the reason why NEC is the cheapest is that the support of different media manufactures is poor. Only big japans manufactures are mostly supported at the beginning of new speed or dvd format.

It is very difficult as manufacturer to get into the release of a new firmware.

Especially for the high speed media => 8x and 16x firmware will be even more crucial.

I would recommand using a simple CD writer to aviod compatibility issues togheter with Nero burning rom and if necessairy IN CD for formating.

Also keep your hands of ultraspeed discs because quality of those discs and stick with standard or high speed media.
