I was told the NEC ND-3500AG had a hacked firmware that allows for burns at higher than default speeds. Point being, my old PX-708A broke and left me with some cruddy 8x DVD+R media. While it would let me burn @ 8x, a Pioneer DVR-108 would not...so I got the NEC instead. Come to find out, the NEC also limits me at 4x like the Pioneer did.

Now that my drive is here and I find I can't burn at 8x using default firmware, I went searching for this Holy Grail of hacked firmwares. I've come up empty-handed so far. The only hacked firmware supporting increased speeds I've found is v2.C8, which I guess only modifies the speed code for Ritek DL media. While I enjoy the regionless settings and absent rip lock, I still want to burn this Interaxia 8x DVD+R @ 6x or 8x. Seeing as how 6x doesn't quite exist, I want 8x. The media code is on the CD, but I'm denied due to NEC's judgement on these discs.

i have 2C8 firmware like yours and I am able to burn at 8x with DVD+R 4x without any problem. Check your system.

That's kind of the funny part. I've got 8x media and the media's speed code shows 8x, but my drive refuses to burn above 4x with it.

your media is only supported at 4X writing speed, not 8X!

I know the drive only supports 4x on it, but I'm more interested in forcing it to burn @ 8x.
