Western Digital introduced the new 2.5" HDD for notebooks and multimedia devices. It´s the first product from WD for portable devices.

According to TrendFOCUS, shipments of 2.5" hard drives will grow by almost 25% this year (from 47 to 60 million).

WD Scorpio drives will have the following features:
5,400 rpm
Up to 12 ms seek
40, 60, 80 GB capacity
EIDE
2 MB buffer (up to 8 MB)

I also dunno about Maxtor (personally i dont like them very much...just compare their products to WD's and You will very soon see who is king of the hill here - they may have twice as much of cache buffer, twice as much capacity and may use UATA-133 or even SATA-150....but when it comes to the most important issues like access times, transfer times,etc...they are WAY BEHIND Western Digital )....RAPTOR & CAVIAR SPECIAL EDITION FROM WD JUST ROCK FOLKS!!!

Btw...Toshiba made some big steps lately...1.8" drive and so on...so dont forget to count then in too...

Nice day/night everybody...
