No, you need to be careful and get an AGP card and not a PCI-Express one.
That's a good thing though, since PCI-Express cards cost about 40 bucks more that their
equivalent agp versions.
If you need any help choosing the card, just tell us how much money you're willing to spend.
Card prices vary from $50 to the insane amount of $800.

I'd get an ATI 9800 pro with 128Mb.
If you can find one with 256Mb ram in that range, that'd be even better.

The bad thing now with the PCI-E VGA cards is that next year you cannot find any AGP to buy.

As for which card to buy depends on what games you would like to play.

9800pro's main competitor from NVIDIA is the FX5900.
Even in doom3 with the right drivers you can enjoy the game just good as you would with an FX5900.
Plus you can play farcry with all the eye candy enabled where with 5900 you'd get a lot less fps.
So, I don't think it's a matter of which games you'd like to play in this case.
About PCI-Express unless you're upgrading your motherboard there's no reason really to worry about them.

Yep :)
1024x768 with high details, as long as you get the latest drivers and do all the optimization steps that exist for doom3.
Note that this is not the maximum detail level available.
There's still an ultra detail level but that is just there to justify the upcoming 512mb ram cards :
Fact #1: There's no difference that the human eye can see between high and ultra settings.
Fact #2: It doesn't even require a 512mb ram card. It runs great even with 256mb and some 128mb ones.

Of course you gotta have a fast cpu(2.4GHz+) and at least 512mb of ram on your computer.

No it won't be hard at all.All you have to do is to locate your agp slot (above the pci slots) and install your 9800. After the first boot with your new radeon 9800 you will have uninstall your previous graphics card drivers and install the drivers located in the cd provided with your radeon.Thats all, enjoy!

Yep.
The 6600GT will probably rule the mainstream market as soon as it hits the stores.
However it's price will be above $200, check out Froogle: Froogled
