TORONTO -- Experts warn that computers are becoming more vulnerable to creative spammers who can hijack systems to spread those insidious junk e-mails. Sophos, a global anti-virus software company, recommends seven ways to avoid being a spammer's best friend:
1. Never make a purchase from an unsolicited e-mail.
2. If you don't know the sender of an unsolicited e-mail message, delete it.
3. Never respond to spam messages or click on any links in the message.
4. When sending e-mail messages to a large number of recipients, use the blind copy (BCC) field to conceal their e-mail addresses. This makes it harder for spammers to harvest the addresses.
4. Never put your e-mail address on websites, newsgroup lists or other online public forums.
6. Never give your primary e-mail address to anyone or any site you don't trust.
7. Use one or two secondary e-mail addresses to register for websites, so your primary address stays out of spammers' hands.
