Businesses should delay switching to Linux until IT managers can give a better business case for adoption, says research.

And although Linux is still seeing double figure growth, following support by IBM, HP and Oracle, only four per cent of Unix and 10 per cent of Windows users have any plans to switch systems, according to Yankee Group.

The report says switching to Linux may not be advantageous for large corporates, because they have big financial investments tied up in services and support infrastructure, built on Unix or Windows.

Yankee Group says IT managers should delay migration to Linux, or any other software, until they can show the boardroom how it will deliver better technology benefits and return on investments.
