Hewlett-Packard on Friday will launch 25 consumer products, part of its push toward digital entertainment as some of its other units struggle.
The launch includes H-P's first plasma television, which it announced in January. The 42-inch flat panel will cost $2,999; a high-definition version will sell for $4,999. Smaller TVs will also be introduced, as well as products ranging from digital cameras to laptop computers and photo paper for printers. The products will hit shelves in the next several months.
H-P is also expected to introduce its version of Apple Computer's iPod digital music player, analysts say. The companies announced the H-P-branded iPod in January. Apple shares rose 5% Thursday on the reports. H-P shares rose 0.5%.
H-P executives are "reshaping the company to focus on digital media," says analyst Phil Leigh of Inside Digital Media.
