Have you the same policy as cdfreaks? to delete posts that are against nero?

We try to find some answers from Ahead about the behaviour you describe, this will take sometime.

I am not aware of any locked threads, if that happened i will talk with moderators to see what happened, and no we don't delete posts that are against Nero or other companies, unless are not fully true or contain illegal content.

There are 3 reasons for Nero to communicate out:

1. Program update check (can turn off)
2. Antivirus update (on demand)
3. CDDB (or is it FREEDB) on audio CD, if enabled

One BAD habit, is that in certain menu dialogs, it initiates UPNP traffic - I firewalled that, since it's just unwanted pollution - disappointed not to be able to turn it off.

i juse Hijack This mainly for fixing Internet Explorer whenever its being hijack by some trovan virus or worm i dunno what its called. Hijack This can detect other softwares too that starts when windows start including Nero, even Real Player etc. But that doesnt mean theyre SPYWARE. Once again, Nero is NOT SPYWARE and never will be. Nero is THE BEST burning software thats why it is being attack. I love Recode 2 its the best to use when backing up DVD movies after being shrunk by DVD Shrink which is awesome by the way. Thanks for all the administrators and all you guys are amazing... Stop this Nero Spyware nonsense. If you dont like it dont use it PERIOD!!! As easy as that...

You speak the truth. I don't think we need to rehash all the "crap" that was previously posted about Nero.

Point simple:

1) It's a great piece of software, if you don't own it, you should
2) They work extremely hard, to update/modify any problem with Nero
3) I use it exclusively, I wouldn't even dream of using anything else
4) If you have truely used it, you know that you will purchase it, because simply put, it works

Every time I start Nero (oem) my zonealarm alert window pops up.

As said before I don't think its malicious - its just checking for
updates I think.

I welcome that.

You can "safely" put a check in that box, so zone doesn't ask you again, just give it permission....

If you have an update, post it, and I'll go get it if I want it. Auto-update is the worst thing to ever happen to the software industry IMHO. I giggle profusely when people complain to me about getting "updated" and then either losing functionality, or pickup up a regression bug. Remember, if software companies REALLY knew what they were doing 100% of the time, the product would never NEED to get updated outside of compatibility.
Since we all know that isnt the case, why would you want to automaticly download a potentially bad upgrade without first doing a little homework?

Too right!
The only software with a good reason for auto-update is an antivirus.

For anything else, I'd much rather read the release notes, and see what's fixed, what's added, and most importantly, what's broken - or at least not the same as it used to be.

The other reason for auto update, is a cop-out ... we realeased it full of bugs, lets quietly clear them up and hope nobody notices.

One other reason to have auto-update (though I doubt it applies to Nero) is so that incremantal updates can be delivered, instead of downloading the same lump you would for a complete install - however, since Nero 5.5, there have been no "updates", just a solid lump that is both a demo install, a registerable download, and an update over a current installation.

Just a quick note: Nero's update feature only checks for updates, it does not automatically update your software. You still have to manually download and install the update.

There is no layer break optimization in Nero for DL @ this time (6.3.1.25).
There is no layer break control at all at this time...

CopyToDVD does it since a few weeks...

Nero is not DL complaint for me at the moment. I use it only for SL, no more DL with Nero 'till
they code something optimized for the layer break (a layer break between two chapters
and not in the midle of a scene is needed...).
