Hello.

I have an Aopen CRW1232Pro. I would like to know which CDR and/or CDR/W medias would you recommend to use with this drive. I have a few unusable cdrs, so from that experience, I don't want to waste my money anymore.

I always use Imation CDRs, and they're quite good. No luck with Sony CDRs tho. Acer CDR/W is very good and very reliable. So, anyone? :)

Try the latest branded media from Mitsui, Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden should work ok

Ah.. I can get Mitsui and Verbatim medias here. How do I know they are the latest when looking at it?

strange, i have the same aopen writer (a rebadged ricoh, i believe) and haven't had any problems with media except for one old junko brand that i also have problems with on another yamaha 4x writer.

i've used sony (both old taiyo yuden and the latest sony ones), tdk (old blue TDK azo, newer riteks), memorex (ritek + prodisc), "no name" brands (CMC), fuji (taiyo yuden) ... etc.

for RW, i've used verbatim datalifeplus, maxell (both highspeed made by mitsubishi) and older 4x TDK (also mitsubishi) and even some noname 2x (don't know who made it).

i'm running the latest firmware, which isn't all that new.

Thanks! I'll take down those brands for future references. Anyway, are you using firmware 1.30? I bought a Sony 'supremas' CDR and when trying to burn some files, my Nero says 'Bad media speed' or something like that. what do you think?

hmm, sound like bad quality/compatibility alright.

oops, made a mistake ... the sonys i used *were* supremas. sorry, it only says it on the actual CD and not the packaging (as shown above).

i have two different batches and not sure which ones i have used but they both have the same ATIP info. i bought the slimcase 10packs. some came with black trays and some with white.

i recently bought some of the new sony 10packs also (in the yellow outer box with the updated sony graphics that you see on the VHS tapes also but i haven't used any yet). similar ATIP info except it is type 2 as opposed to type 1. the actual CD look the same as the older ones on both sides:

ps to all: in the profile, people should really fill in what country they are in. it helps because different countries have different types of CDs even if they are the same brand (eg. sony, tdk, etc)

Gosh! Thank you so much for that generous infos. How do I know the Sony CDR that I'll buy were manufactured by Taiyo? Is there any indication or whatsoever on the box? Have you ever encountered any probs using CDRs manufactured by Sony (huh? [:0])?

not that i know of. i don't think sony has gotten TY to make discs for them for the past couple of years (at least not in canada). when sony started selling 700MB/80min discs, they were all sony made, AFAIK.

nope. but i've mostly burned audio CDs using the sonys and i never bothered to check for errors or stuff like that, and i burned the discs for other people. no one has complained of skipping or crap like that if that is any help : ).

No skipping or errors eh? Amazing. At what speed do you normally burn? I think I've read somewhere, when U burn audiocds, we should turn off Justlink or Burnproof.. i dunno.

i usually burn at 12 or 8x. and i never use justlink.

it's funny about the bufferunderrun protection like justlink/burnproof/etc. it was probably intended just be a failsafe but it seems a lot of people treat it like ... well, don't know what the word is but here is an analogy: having a bulletproof vest doesn't mean you walk in front of bullets : ).

i'm not a big fan of Z-CLV either. as always, it's just a personal choice : ).
