Finnish software maker Lineox now supports 64-bit x86 architecture systems. The company's x86_64 release runs on AMD's Opteron and Athlon64 processors as well as on Intel new Xeon and Pentium IV CPU's that have EM64T (Extended Memory 64 Technology), Lineox says.

Lineox Linux is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux source code, and the company's "Always Current Linux" program is touted as offering a migration path for IT administrators who want to upgrade their legacy Red Hat systems.

The release is said to contain all freely distributable programs found in Red Hat's Enterprise Linux 3.0 AS/ES/WS, Cluster Suite, and Developer Suite. The DVD-ROM also contains six different language versions of 1.1.0, dictionaries, spell checkers, and other support files.

Lineox claims its enterprise-level Linux distribution offers nearly five years of planned support life. A support service is offered for 15 Euros per year for a single system, which reduces to 5 Euros per system for customers with over 50 systems, and further discounts for larger enterprises.

The new release does not currently support GFS (Global File System). Lineox says that it removed GFS due to installation issues, and that it will be added in a future update.
