It's time for a new CDRW, and I don't really know which one to choose. I'm leaning toward Yamaha F1, but Plextor is also appealing (can get it for same price as Yamaha). On the other side, Liteon 48/12/48 is very cheap.

I will use the drive mainly for DAE and recording of data CDs. The price is not a problem, but I would like some input about these drives from their owners (reliability, durability, recording quality and speed, and mainly speed under Exact Audio Copy).

Going through the review and both drives have their good and bad points. Pity the Plextor doesn't fully/ correctly support Mt. Rainier. In fact from the reviews i have read which i couldn't find one drive that does fully pass all the Mt. rainier tesrs? Or am i wrong? Also unless i didn't understand properly the Plextor only supports only 24x with US-RW or?

Plextor said that with new firmware will support the EasyWrite test suite that makes sure Mt. Rainier works properly...And yes Plextor supports only 24X with US-RW

With f/w v1.03 Plextor claim improvements for Mt. Rainier. I can't check as I *still* haven't got mine back... [B)]

the Yamaha CRW-F1 can overburn up to 99:59min (with proper media) buit the plextor can only over burn to 94:59min (again with proper media). I'm not sure if this will be an issue for you or not, but I thought I'd include it for you

if you consider LiteON go for the 48x24x48x it's only a little more expensive, and it's overclockable to 52x24x52x

About CD-RW media. you need US-RW compliant media to get re-write speeds higher then 12x no matter what burner you have.

If you were going to o/c a Lite-On 48X to a 52X, you would of course buy an LTR-48126S and convert it to a LTR-52246S... It's cheaper that way, than buying the 48/24/48 model.
