KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- A suspected member of a syndicate distributing pirated compact discs (CDs) crashed his van into several vehicles while attempting to escape Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry enforcement officials, here Thursday. Ministry operations deputy director-general Zainal Abidin Nordin said in the noon raid at two premises in Lorong 6E/91, Taman Shamelin Perkasa, Cheras, the man was unloading pirated CDs from his van when he noticed the presence of enforcers. "He tried to escape by reversing into an enforcement vehicle and a Toyota Vios and Honda Accord car in the nearby car park," Zainal Abidin told reporters at the scene. Quick action by enforcers, however, brought the suspect into custody while two vans, one with a load of some 30,000 CDs, were seized, he said. "Checks on the premises found 250,000 CDs of local and international artistes worth RM1.5 million," he said. He said initial investigation also found that the syndicate had been renting the two premises for the past six months and was distributing the contraband in the Klang Valley. Zainal Abidin said the premises were also equipped with closed-circuit TV cameras to monitor the presence of enforcers. He said the seizure was the second biggest this year after a raid in Cheras in February which netted 350,000 video compact discs worth RM1.7 million. Source : Bernama
