August 9, 2004 (TOKYO) -- At the "Blu-ray Disc Information Seminar," held in Tokyo on August 3 Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd of Korea exhibited a trial model of its Blu-ray Disc recorder, and revealed that it will release a recorder by the end of 2004.

Samsung is planning to introduce the product first in Korea and North America.

The recorder in the exhibition was almost identical to the one the company had shown at the "2004 International CES," held in January 2004.

"In preparation for mass producing, we have prepared special molds for the Blu-ray Disc, from the frame to the disc tray," a company official said.

Although Samsung has thus far attempted to make it compatible with BD-ROM, the Blu-ray Disc specifications for playback, the attempt had to be abandoned this time. The first model is compatible with the rewritable Blu-ray Disc media only.
