Internet company Yahoo has launched a new search engine dedicated to local searches, allowing users to find the closest record shop, Sunday brunch, dry cleaners or any other business or service in a particular geographic area.

The site, http://local.yahoo.com, is currently in the testing stage, and is not linked to by yahoo's main search site.

When results are returned, the listings come with a map showing how to get to the location. The listings also allow users to rate the businesses from one to five.

The local search service is currently restricted to locations within the US.
