This is wonderful news. maybe 1600 owners will get fw treat on the BenQ website some.

On an other note, as the 1600>1620 is free, I wonder if they will let the 1620>1630 with small firmware update fee.

Great news, thanks Emperor!

I'll be ordering my DW1600 straight away so I can start helping giving feedback to NicW on DVDInfoPro and Deppe on CD-DVD Speed.

Hey Emperor, can you tell us what writing strategy (PCAV, or ZCLV) are being used for 16x recording on DVD+R media? (and DVD-R media when you can!)

DW1600 uses CAV for writing strategy, haven't you read our review? I will burn some media with the BenQ tomorrow, hopefully and see how it performs

Good, as soon the new firmware hit the website, you can also make your own tests

Yes, BenQ made some good marketing steps when releasing DW1600A, even i feel, DW1620 should be the drive that all users should had from the first place

And don't forget, for free....Philips had mentioned that their 16X drive should be DUAL format (who wants a single format recorder anyway)

Would this upgrade be even possible? 4X DL would be nice
