Any guess as to how reliable this BenQ promise of free DW1600->DW1620 firmware upgrade is?

I'm itching to get a BenQ and now that I found a German mail-order shop with DW1600 in stock, I'm about to push the order button.

I just would hate if I were to be left with a single format burner, for which the promised firmware never materialised :)

Maybe you can reveal if it's 8x, 12x or 16x -R?

I didn't found any -R media that supported 12X/16X with the drive, i am checking with BenQ, maybe there is some problem, but since official specs state 16X -R so assume will eventually will become

PS. Anyone understood what are the differences between DW1610 and DW1620?

Good point here, i was looking the news and couldn't understand the differences, wondering why BenQ again releases so many models, maybe for difference price ranges and users??

The 1600 was a pre-release and should have been 1620. But Benq wanted to be the first to release a 16x burner so the came with the 1600. But since the 1600 is as expensive as a 1620 they decided that there would be a free firmware that 1600->1620.

Hey Emperor, can you tell us what writing strategy (PCAV, or ZCLV) are being used for 16x recording on DVD+R media? (and DVD-R media when you can!)
